Dulux Colour of the Year 2018 'Heartwood'
'The colour for 2018 is inspired by the beautifully warm wooden materials we see being used in all kinds of interior decorating and architecture. A variety of woods are growing in popularity, but we see a tendency towards warmer, light and dark shades of red, alongside violet and pinkish woods. The warmth of wood reflects the comfort that we need in these uncertain times – this material is an essential element for creating the welcoming environments we desire.' (Dulux)
Heartwood is the 'hero' colour of the Dulux palette of 2018. This hue continues the trend of soft and soothing hues that many colour houses have opted for in recent years.
Last year (2017), Dulux showcased the world wide trend toward the blue hues with Denim Drift. The new hue, Heartwood, is reminiscent of the muted tones of Denim Drift and has that 'neutrality' that everyone is looking for.
Heartwood feels like a cross between a taupe and a dusty mauve to me with a softness and subtlety that gives you the option of using it as a full wall colour, a highlight or feature, or with soft furnishings and a broader palette.
Colour palettes are no longer stand alone, from colour houses, but carry on from the previous year. Importantly, the Heartwood hue, works beautifully with the timber trends and Scandinavian styles we love so much.
Rebecca Williamson, senior colour and design expert, said: 'Dulux's colour of the year for 2018, Heart Wood, is incredibly versatile, and connects beautifully with the accompanying trend palettes for the year ahead.
